UC San Diego provides geriatrics teaching to residents from the UC San Diego Internal Medicine, UC San Diego Family Medicine, Scripps Internal Medicine, Family Health Centers of San Diego Family Medicine, and the Camp Pendleton Family Medicine residency training programs.
UC San Diego Internal Medicine Residents
Internal medicine residents at UC San Diego complete a four-week rotation during their 2nd-year of residency in geriatrics. In addition, residents of any year may complete a two-week elective rotation.
PGY2 Rotation:
This rotation is designed for residents to gain an overview of geriatrics, along with the unique medical concerns of an older adult population. Residents receive an introduction to clinical care in multiple settings, including outpatient clinic, home care, inpatient sub-acute and skilled nursing care, geriatric psychiatry, dementia care, and hospice. Case-based learning and an interdisciplinary team approach are emphasized.
Schedules for individual blocks and residents can be viewed here.
Elective Rotation:
This rotation is designed to provide residents with additional geriatrics exposure beyond what is available in the current required rotation.
