This is the picture of Malcolm X in Mecca.
This week we talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Although the two men held what appeared to be diametrically opposing views on the struggle for equal rights, by the end of their lives their ideologies were evolving. King was becoming more militant in his views of economic justice for black people and more vocal in his criticism of the Vietnam War. Malcolm X, who had broken with the Nation of Islam, had dramatically changed his views on race during his 1964 pilgrimage to Mecca.
In Saudi Arabia, he’d experienced what amounted to his second life-changing epiphany as he accomplished the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca, and discovered an authentic Islam of universal respect and brotherhood. The experience changed Malcolm’s worldview. Gone was the belief in whites as exclusively evil. Gone was the call for black separatism. His voyage to Mecca helped him discover the atoning power of Islam as a means to unity as well as self-respecthttps://www.thoughtco.com/malcom-x-in-mecca-2353496

This advertisement, aside from winning a trophy at the 2010 Cresta Awards. This advertisement creates a strong emotional connection between the babies presented and viewers through the portrayal of the idea that these babies futures and the ability for success have already been determined based solely on their skin color. The baby, from the start of birth, has already been racially profiled and placed in a box categorized for potential outcomes. Many people have lived up to the socially constructed assumptions regarding what one will amount to, based on race. Through this, the ad becomes very relatable to the many who have struggled to break out of this box of societal expectations. These babies are inevitably judged through the existence of racial stereotypes and lack the possibilities that their white counterparts are given and assumed to have.
