RITS would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our presenters, participants, and attendees who contributed to this event to make the 2017 Faculty Showcase a success again this year!
The Showcase highlighted a wide variety of recent research topics in a lightning-talk format:
- Harry Helling, Executive Director, Birch Aquarium at SIO, discussed how technology is bringing live video feeds from around the world to the Triptych Video wall in the Aquarium
- Tom Levy, Director, Center for Cyber-Archaeology & Sustainability, shared hi-tech archaeological field techniques that result in stunning 3D experiential visualizations shared via specially developed immersive kiosks
- Linda McEvoy, Assoc. Professor, Depts. of Radiology & Family Medicine & Public Health, talked about the Rancho Bernardo Study and how 45 years worth of collected data is becoming richer through the development of a cloud-based interactive relational database
- On behalf of Martin Ralph, Director, Center for Western Weather & Water Extremes, Scott Sellars, Ph.D. examined the gains in computing efficiency through the use of the Pacific Research Platform and FIONA boxes, increasing his computing speed by 56 times over what it once was!
In addition to the lightning talks, our digital technology service provider partners were on hand for a poster session and provided valuable information about their services to attendees. We were joined by representatives from the San Diego Supercomputer Center, the Research Data Curation Program, Library Data Services, Research Administrative Applications/eRAP, SIO Data Center, and the Center for Humanities/Digital Humanities.
In case you were unable to join us at the showcase, links to the presentations and posters are available here!
