As a woman of hispanic descent, learning about the history of Chicano Park is always so empowering for me because it reminds me of all the struggles my people have overcome and because it inspires me to fight for what I believe is right. On this trip, my classmate and I were lucky enough to learn about one of the community members favorite mural. We were told that their favorite mural is the “brown image,” or “the deer dance,” because it represents the life of a chief from infancy to adulthood and illustrates the importance of knowing where one comes from. Through this experience, I not only discovered that there is always something new to learn at Chicano Park, but I was also able to see the role that Chicano Park plays in the community and with its community members.
