Happy Open Access Week 2022! This week our plan is to highlight UC San Diego research, scholarship, and art related to the theme, “Open for Climate Justice.” During #OAWeek, we’ll tweet about publications authored by a diverse range of authors and initiatives happening on our campus. At #UCSD, we have entire centers devoted to bringing about climate justice with everyone from undergraduates, faculty, and community partners working to “make our world a better place.”
The #UCSD Center for Global Justice’s founding director is our own political science professor, Fonna Forman. Dr. Forman has written chapters for the OER as well as participated in our #OAW event last year as part of a faculty and student panel on equitable & affordable course materials.
New Chaucer Studies: Pedagogy and Profession, an #openaccess no-APC peer-reviewed journal, is has made a call for submissions (by May 15, 2021) for their “Pandemic Collection.” This new journal, @NewChaucer_PP offers brief essays on teaching, service, and institutional cultures for teachers and scholars of Chaucer and his age. The journal is published on the University of California’s eScholarship #OA repository and publishing platform with a founding editor from the #UCSD Literature Department, Lisa R. Lampert-Weissig.
The first issue launched in December of 2020 and for most of us, it is one of the most positive things to come out of the-year-that-can-not-end-soon-enough!
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
For our Fall 2021 issue, we are planning a special cluster on the ongoing pandemic and the effects it has had on all of us. Inspired by other projects that assemble responses to the current COVID-19 pandemic (see here, here, here, and here), we have wondered, How will we in the community of medievalists remember the impact of this global crisis? How have we reacted and responded as teachers? As scholars? In order to create a collective assembly of voices and experiences, we seek short contributions (ca. 1000-1500w) that consider the writers’ pandemic experiences in the education and scholarly contexts where they work, learn and create. Contributions will appear in the Fall 2021 issue of New Chaucer Studies: Pedagogy and Profession and in the NCS: Pedagogy and Profession Newsletter.
Contributions to the NCS: Pedagogy and Profession Newsletter are considered via a rolling acceptance process. Please submit your contribution as an attachment to ncs.pedagogyandprofession@gmail.com.
The George Washington University Master of Professional Studies in Publishing program is soliciting papers for the Journal of Ethics in Publishing, a new, open access journal. The Journal of Ethics in Publishing welcomes articles, case studies, and conference presentations from scholars, students, and publishing professionals on topics including, but not limited to, diversity and inclusion, accessibility, peer review, open access, sustainability, publishing metrics, equity, and other aspects and issues of ethics in publishing. This online journal will be managed by students in the GW Publishing program. We envision publication of the journal commencing in Fall 2020. (post on the G Word blog April 7, 2020)

It is the premiere community-led and organised summer school on current trends in Scholarly Communication. Our instructors are community members who are passionate about passing on their knowledge and experience to others in Scholarly Communication and Open Research. They range from up-and-coming researchers and practitioners to world-leading experts. The call for papers for Elpub conference that will take place in Marseille, France, June 2-4 2019. The deadline for submitting abstracts is the 21st of January. The topic of the conference this year is bibliodiversity. I’d heartily recommend going and not just because it’s in France.
The Florida OER Summit Executive Advisory Committee is pleased to invite proposal submissions for the OER Summit 2019 Poster Session. The 2019 summit will be held February 27th and 28th at the Sheraton Orlando North (600 North Lake Destiny Rd., Maitland, FL 32751) and is designed for attendees to learn how to implement the use of OER at their college or university. Accepted posters will be featured during the evening reception of the first day.
Topics of interest for this year’s summit:
1. How institutions implemented and organized OER through grants, partnerships, etc.
2. Staff and Faculty OER training
3. How to locate and organize library OER resources
4. How to locate peer reviewed ancillaries
5. Develop ancillary materials to track OER usage
6. Key instructional design issues related to the development of OER courses
We encourage submissions to include handouts, resources, and a better understanding of how to implement OER within attendee’s institutions. Poster proposals will be due on January 11, 2019. Submissions will be received online.

The symposium will explore influential scholarly communication initiatives that concern values and ethics in open access environments, systems, and practices. The symposium brings open access front and center, with presentations and discussions on its value and meaning for academics, researchers, and librarians.

O3S (a) highlights research that uses the tools and methods of open scholarship; (b) brings together researchers who work on problems of open access, publishing, and open scholarship; and (c) facilitates exchange of ideas on the development of SocArXiv, the open access preprint repository for the social sciences.
